My name is Karolina Perkins. I am 18 years old and this is my first term at Sac City. I transferred in from the University of Oregon after fall quarter. I am thankful for my time at Oregon because it taught me a lot about myself, but I could not be more elated to no longer be on the quarter system. Currently I am majoring in Administration of Justice, as I hope to have a career in law enforcement some day.
I have had a pretty average life. Nothing spectacular. My parents met on McClellan Air Force Base, where my dad was stationed and my mom completed her firefighting training. I was born on Travis Air Force Base and lived there with my family until my dad retired from the service after 20 years. I have two half siblings and one younger sister. My half brothers name is Brandon and he is 27 and currently lives in Texas. My half sister Katey is 26 and lives with her 5 kids and her husband in North Carolina. My younger sister Kaelyn is 16 and is growing up way too fast. As a kid I took a liking to a lot of different sports. Gymnastics was the only sport that stuck with me. I was involved in the sport for around 13 years and 10 of those were spent on a competitive team. Gymnastics was a huge part of me and it had a huge impact on the way I am today. The sport is very intense and can sometimes be too intense. I have had some hardships because of the sport and how it conditioned me to think harshly about myself. Though gymnastics brought a lot of hard times, it also brought lots of once in a lifetime experiences. I was given the opportunity to travel around and compete in big competitions. At one point I had aspirations of continuing the sport in college, but after my coach decided to up and leave, my plans changed a bit. I was introduced to track and field, more specifically, pole vaulting. I spent my senior year vaulting for Davis High. I fell quickly in love with the sport. It was a much more positive training atmosphere than I had previously experienced in gymnastics. I was devastated when I found out I couldn’t continue the sport in Oregon. When I went to Oregon, I gave a lot up. Now I am here and ready to start a new journey.
